A military base is a facility directly owned and operated by and/or for the military or one of its branches that shelters military equipment and personnel, and facilitates training and operations. Jurisdictional definitionBases are usually extra-legal jurisdictions not subject to civil law. They can range from small outposts to military cities containing up to 100,000 people. Some military bases may belong to a different nation or state than the territory surrounding it. Fort Jefferson in Florida in the United States is an example of a military base although no particular size or layout is typical. Fort Jefferson is no longer in use and is currently part of the Dry Tortugas National Park. From Wikipedia under the

AAFES goes comparison shopping within the surrounding civilian population, and then prices its products accordingly. (AAFES also supplies cigarettes to the Commissary at those prices.) Q. And Germany has no military bases here? I know about WWII. But today, Germany has a better economy than we do, and they have health care for all their citizens. We are now friends and trading partners with Russia and all other communist countries (except Cuba). Why continue expensive military bases in wealthy Germany Asked by Honest Opinion - Fri Feb 22 16:52:53 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. The US did not conquer Germany fully. It was the USSR that invaded and controlled Berlin and most of Germany. In fact the US nearly stopped just after they crossed the Rhine. After the war was over the Russians pulled out of West Germany and the Americans, the British and the French took over West Germany. Part of the agreement was that the US be allowed to have military bases to deter the Russians. However since the reunification of Germany after the cold war, the agreement is really no longer in effect. The Germans simply let the US use air base and military bases nowadays as a good-will sign since they are allies.
