A military organization is an organization which exists to fight wars. It has a legalized and legitimized use of violence in the interests of the state which it serves. In a democracy or other political system run in the public interest, it is a public force. In North American English military is common as a noun -one can talk about "a military" or "the military"- but in British and Commonwealth English it is normally used as an adjective -one refers to "a military force" or "military organization". Blackwater and a few other contractors won't touch you unless your physically fit. If your last asthma attack has not been within the last 5 years, you may be eligible for the military. You will have to get a cardiopulminary exam by your own physician and submit that paperwork to your local recruiter. Given the past 70 odd years of government/politicians ignoring the Constitution, the Armed Forces would be in a quandry at what point does that elected government constitute enough of a threat to revolt. The erosion of American liberty has been pretty persistant for a long time, when do we abandon the remains of our Republic to start a civil war? The personnel serving tend to better educated than the populance on average and far better versed in the Constitution and US history at large.
