Can anyone fly into Tyndall AFB airport?
Q. I want to visit my husband in Tyndall but not sure which airport to use. Tyndall or Panama City

A. Unless you are flying Space Available on a military flight you will not be allowed to fly into Tyndall. For visiting him you must fly into the closest commercial airport which would be Panama City.

What's the best AFB to be stationed at?
Q. Airmen, in your opinion, what's the best base to be stationed at and why? I've heard Moody AFB and Tyndall AFB quite a few times. (I'll be going into Security Forces most likely, and yes I know they have a high deployment rate)

A. I depends on you, the things you like to do, the climate you're comfortable in, and the kind of community you want to live in. My two favorites were Elmendorf AFB, AK and Osan AB, ROK. I despise Nellis based on several TDYs but permanent party might be different.

A. If you have a lot of stuff are you doing a DITY move or are you having the Air Force move your stuff for you? If you are moving your own stuff the DITY move will pay you extra money for doing the move yourself. As far as the drive the Air Force will pay you several different things. You will get a daily perdiem, addition money per mile, and money for lodging. So you will have ample funds to do the trip if that is your concern. Or are you trying to use military billeting in order to make as much profit as possible from your move? On another note you are not limited to just Air Force bases. Billeting on Army posts can also be used. The catch with using billeting is since you are not PCS'ing to that base (whether it is Air Force or Army)… [cont.]

Which of these Air Force bases is the best?
Q. I'm in AFROTC and just got my assignment, now I have to choose my bases! What do these bases have to offer to a future AF Chemist? Edwards AFB, CA Wright-Patterson AFB, OH Eglin AFB, FL Tyndall AFB, FL Patrick AFB, FL Hanscom AFB, MA Thanks for your input!

A. Are you asking for career opportunities or for things to do in the area? As an air force chemist, your two best bases would be Hanscom and Wright-Patterson due to the level work being done in your field on those bases. However, if you want to have an actual life (beaches, nightlife, low cost of living, etc.) Eglin, Tyndall and Patrick would be your best choices.

What's a good AFB to be stationed at?
Q. I'm going to work on F15 or F22 avionics (preferably F22) and want to know which is a good base to be stationed at. The only Air Force Bases I know of that have F22s are Langley, Eglin, Tyndall and Elmendorf. Langley looks like a good one. Also can anybody tell me what RAF Lakenheath and Nellis are like? Thanks. I live in California and have been to Vegas about 4 times before. I lived in longon for 11 years, so I should fit right in at Lakenheath... Langley, Elmendorf and Eglin are looking pretty attractive now... I'll pick a best answer later.

A. Langley is a fabulous base and Virginia is a beautiful state. The drawback is that it is expensive to live there. Lakenheath is nice, but the dollar is not doing so good against the pound. Could be expensive. Eglin is on the Emerald Coast and the water is truly emerald green. There is a lot to do but I must tell you it's extremly hot and humid. Cost of living is affordable and if you buy north of Eglin in one of the smaller towns (Crestview) you can get much more for your money. Tyndall is located in Panama City and here again is very hot and humid but the beaches are beautiful. Cost of living is a little more here than Eglin. Elmendorf is great. If you're young and adventureous it's probably one of the best places. It's… [cont.]

How do I go about renting a car to drive to my next training base.?
Q. I'm in training at sheppard AFB and I want to rent a car to drive to my next training base located at Tyndall. I'm 21 and I'd like to know how to go about renting a car or if its possible and who would be the cheapest. Any help would be great. Sheppard gives you the option of driving because some airmen bring their cars to the base during training as a mode of transportation when not on duty.

A. Also, you have to be 25 and have a credit card to rent a car. Edit, yes, I know he could rent a car if he were to get orders, but he won't get the authorization for this particular trip.

A. It really depends on what you like to do: I'll address the ones I've personally been to: Andrews - not so nice part of DC - great to hop out of if you like to travel. Beale - middle of nowhere CA. . . they have cows on the runway; its an hour from Sacramento. Brooks is in SA and its all but shut down.. . .its like 3 active duty people and 100 contractors Columbus nice base not much of a town outside -very pilot centric. Fairchild - okay base about 30 miles from Spokane great place if you like hunting/fishing. Langley- I like Langley the best its 2 hours from DC so you can visit when you want/an hour and some change from Outer Banks, near enough to Norfolk VA you get good concerts, decent hockey team, etc. You can go 30 mins the other… [cont.]

When will I see my AF Officer boyfriend again?
Q. My boyfriend is an AF officer and just began his Air Battle Manager training at Tyndall AFB in Florida. I just went there to visit him and had a great time. The only problem is that I'm not sure when I'll get to see him again before Thanksgiving or even Christmas-time. He's not sure if he'll have any off time during his training but he says he MIGHT have a 2 week lull period where he'll be available for me to visit again. Does anyone have any real life experience with Air Battle Manager training at Tyndall specifically? Is it customary for them to give the trainees some time off at any point? I would really like some insight on this from someone in the know.

Which are the best Air Force Bases in the U.S.?
Q. I know there's Eglin, MacDill, Patrick, and Tyndall in Florida. How would you rate these taking in mind size (I want a big base), facilities, and ambiance? I leave for BMT in about 2 weeks, and while I know that the dream sheet is a wild card, I would still like to list some bases I'm really interested in. My AFSC is Personnel, so I did my research and the majority of bases have my AFSC at my skill level. My number 1 choice however would be McChord AFB, WA. Also, what about the bases in California? How do they compare to each other?

A. Different strokes for different folks really. Example: Mountain Home AFB Idaho. Most people probably would avoid it like the plague. It's cold, kinda remote, and small. But for folks who like winter, outdoor activites (hunting, camping, hiking, skiing) and prefer a smaller country type life, they love it. Best thing to do is think about what things you like to do or what things you would want to do or see. Of all of the U.S. bases I've been stationed at, Hickam AFB Hawaii was the best although it's not on the mainland. Of the mainland bases I've had, Travis AFB CA was best followed by McGuire AFB NJ. They were both good based on proximity to major metropolitan areas, Travis (San Francisco, Sacramento) and McGuire (Philadelphia, New… [cont.]
