Should i join the air force to be a pilot or not?
Q. I'm wondering if i should join the air force to be a pilot, and i wish to be a cargo pilot and have a commercail air line licnese. Or should I learn how to be a pilot in flight school and spend $15,000 to have a commercial pilots license. What way am i more likely to get hired as a ups pilot or fedex?

A. Having goals is great, but at this point you're just wishing. You'll have to work HARD to make it happen, and you'll need some luck too, whether you go for civilian or military training and experience. Aviation is not like medical school, where if you graduate you are pretty much guaranteed a pretty decent career. IF you are smart enough and talented enough to be selected for Air Force training, and IF you are smart enough and talented enough to graduate near the top of your class, only then you MIGHT have the opportunity to choose to go into large transport type aircraft, and this will only happen IF they have any openings for that at the time. What are good jobs to choose when join the air force that will transfer well into a good career in civilian?
Q. I am joining the Air force in the spring/summer of 08 . I need some advice on A.)how to get your recruiter to put in writing a guarantee on the job you want. and B.) What are a list of good jobs that will transfer into a good career once out of the military? I already have my BA degree, in psychology and while I am in the air force I plan on going to school to get my masters , hopefully to aid what I am doing in the air force. My hope in joining the air force is to gain knowledge in a skill that will be able to transfer into civilian life after 3 or so years. A. Most of the people who have answered your question have suggested that you should be an officer just because you have a degree. However, that is not the case. Just because you have a degree does not mean that you will be an officer. The Air Force is downsizing and are highly selective as to who they are accepting for Officer training. As of right now, they are not taking non-technical degrees. Which means that unless you have a degree in one of the sciences or engineering you are pretty much out of luck. Of course, you go can enlisted for a year and then submit your package for Officer training. That way you will have a better chance of being accepted. Now, on to your question. What Air Force job will best serve me in the civilian world?
Q. I'm enlisting in the Air Force, and I want to know which job in the air force I could best chose to use after I get out. Truth is I don't know if I'll make the Air Force a lifetime career or not. But if I don't, I'd like to have a valuable trade that gets me a very decent job in the civilian sector. Any help would be appreciated.

A. Hey! I'm enlisted in the USAF and I leave in September for Basic. I booked Air Traffic Control for my job and I have heard multiple times that this job transfers really well into the civilian world. The Air Force has A LOT of really good jobs that transfer over to the civilian world. You just have to do some research and pick something you really are interested in. The good thing about the Military is that looks good on any resume. For example- The military will be training me for my job- who can beat that?
