The Air National Guard (ANG), often referred to as the Air Guard, is the air force militia organized by each of the fifty U.S. states, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia of the United States. Established under Title 10 and Title 32 of the U.S. Code, the Air National Guard is part of the state National Guard and is divided up into units stationed in each of the 50 states and U.S. territories and operates under their respective state governor or territorial government. The Air National Guard may be called up for active duty by the state governors or territorial commanding generals to help respond to domestic emergencies and disasters, such as those caused by hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. With the consent of state governors, members or units of the Air National Guard may be appointed, temporarily or indefinitely, to be federally recognized members of the armed forces, in the active or inactive service of the United States. If federally recognized, the member or unit becomes part of the Air National Guard of the United States, which is one of two reserve components of the United States Air Force, and part of the National Guard of the United States. Air National Guard of the United States units or members may be called up for federal active duty in times of Congressionally sanctioned war or national emergency. The President may also call up members and units of state Air National Guard, with the consent of state governors, to repel invasion, suppress rebellion, or execute federal laws if the United States or any of its states or territories are invaded or is in danger of invasion by a foreign nation, or if there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the federal government, or if the President is unable with the regular armed forces to execute the laws of the United States. Because both state Air National Guard and the Air National Guard of the United States relatively go hand-in-hand, they are both usually referred to as just Air National Guard. Q. I am currently infantry in the army and looking at going in the air national guard as security forces. does anyone know if this is a hard move to make? and would it be better/easier for me to wait till i get out of the army or do it now so i dont have a break in service? Asked by Mike - Tue Oct 30 18:17:42 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. You have to wait untill your current enlistment is up, before you can enlist in the Air National Guard. There are no lateral moves from the Army to the Air National Guard. A break in service between active duty and enlisting in the national guard, doesn't mean anything. There are no benefits you would lose, by having a break in service. You would still have to fo to San Antonio for the Air Force warrior transition course, then go to SF Tech School. Answered by jeeper_peeper321 - Tue Oct 30 18:45:46 2007 When should I join the air national guard? Q. Ok so Im a junior in high school and I already know tht I will be joining the air national guard. So my question is when should I enlist. I plan on serving after high school. Any help is appreciated thanks :) Rick I never recall saying anything being "tough". So I can tell that you aren't in the air force because your not too bright. Stop being ignorant and have some respect. Q. If I were to enlist with the Air National Guard, what do you think my chances of going to Iraq or Afghanistan would be? (sorry for the grammar and mispellings in the question title. ran out of room). Thanks. Asked by pucksnatcher - Mon Feb 15 12:26:13 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Depends on your unit. I was in my first ANG unit in CA, and out of about 12 months, I ended up deployed for 5 (some Iraq, mostly Turkey). In Washington, I was in a unit for about 4 years, and it was very, very difficult to get deployed... I eventually managed one 2.5 month deployment to UAE. They were always weaseling out of AEF rotations for some reason or another. In my current unit, it is pretty much impossible to get to Iraq/Afghanistan. edit: "All in all, chances of Air National Guard are slim to go (It very possible but not probable)." < I disagree... in a normal ANG unit, you will catch AEF rotations. On that trip to UAE, for instance, a good chunk of the workforce was guard. Answered by illuzion30 - Mon Feb 15 12:30:35 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "air national guard" |
