How do Universities know what units you've taken before high school graduation?
Q. I took 32 units at a community college before graduating. I heard that colleges won't accept a lot of the units taken before graduation. I've spent 2 years going to college so I could get a jumpstart to college and I was NEVER told this. Except for the fact I'm extremely upset right now, I'm wondering if that specification goes for all Universities, and why units (or some units) taken before hs graduation don't count as transfer units?
Asked by Aussie-Girl - Sun Jan 27 22:57:51 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes as the person above mentioned it depends on the course. Check out the catalog description of each of the classes you have taken and see if they are listed as transferable to state or universities. Courses that are usually transferable are any science classes Chem, Bio, Physics, Foreign language, Math classes from Calculus, Stats, College Algebra, etc. Any class that is designated as transferable. The college courses you took to fulfill high school requirements such as trig, intermediate algebra are not transferable.

Is it cheaper to run a central AC unit for an entire apartment, or a couple window units?
Q. I would really like to move into this one apartment, but it doesn't have a Central AC unit. Instead, it has a couple of the window units. I live in Florida, so it does get hot, and I will be running either unit pretty much all the time. Is it cheaper to run a couple of window units, or a Central AC unit? The apartment is only 500 square feet, so there isn't too much area to cool.
Asked by Jenny - Wed Apr 29 08:43:32 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I've found out that running central air is more cost efficient, but for such a small space the window units should be fine. Since the central air will cost you to have installed into an apartment that you are only renting stick with the window units. If it were your home and you owned it then central air would be the best bet.

How do I draw a cylinder 6 units in diameter sticking out from the SIDE of an 8-unit isometric cube?
Q. The cylinder must stick out from the right side of the isometric cube. Cube is 8 units (obviously in length, width, and height) and the length of the cylinder can be any size, just as long as the diameter is 6 units long. I am sketching this on isometric graph paper. If anyone could explain to me how to draw this or show me a tutorial on that type of sketch, it would be appreciated. My design teacher assigned this for homework but he did not explain it well. Thanx!

How many units do I need to be a full time student?
Q. As of right now, I only have 11 units :( To get financial aid I think I need 12 units. Is this true? I already received my financial aid package this quarter. Does this mean I won't get any financial aid next quarter or next year? I plan on taking 15 units in the Winter. Thanks and can you please help me out :( I'm starting to worry about financial aid and units too much!
Asked by Beau - Thu Oct 2 00:10:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For most places in the US on the semester system, 12 credits is a minimum for full-time students. Better go talk to financial aid and make sure you're in good shape. They might make you repay this semester, if you got money as a full time student and then weren't one.

What Combat Engineer units are at Bliss and which units are deploying?
Q. I've got permanent orders for Bliss at the end of Feb and have been trying to find out what Engineer units are there. I know that 1-1 Armor has Engineers and that there is another unit that's currently in NTC prepping to deploy that has engineers, just not sure who they are. Someone also mentioned AETF (Army Evaluation Task Force) having Engineers. Anyone know which units are there and their current deployment status? I'm not scared of deployment, I've got some combat time under these stripes. My biggest worry is that a stop loss will put a stop to my whole SF packet until I return. I'm worried about my career not my hide. PCS orders do show you the unit you will be assigned to, however I'm prior service so I won't figure that out until… [cont.]

How many units of alcohol in a shot of Malibu Rum?
Q. I'm a bit confused with regards to the units of alcohol in a shot of spirits and liquer and stuff. How many units of alcohol are there in a shot of Malibu Rum? What about the units of alcohol in a shot of Vodka? It can't possibly be the same since Vodka is about 40% and Malibu is about 24% ABV. What does this mean exactly?
Asked by acidten - Wed Dec 26 01:55:49 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 40% ABV is when a shot or an ounce or 30mL (whichever, they are all the same) is equal to one standrad drink. Therefore a 20% drink such as Malibu means that 2 shots or ounces or 60 mLs is one standrad drink. Most spirits are 40% which is why a shot of vodka, or rum, etc are generally sold as they are a standard drink. Some, though, such as Frangelico or Malibu, are half strength, and so is half a standard drink per shot. Does this make a little more sense?

How are the units of the rate constant for a third order reaction derived?
Q. I know that the units for a third order rate constant are M^-2 s^-1 but where did they come from?? Any help would be greatly appreciated, My Calculus is a little rusty. Thanks.
Asked by panther23cat - Wed Jul 2 18:41:46 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. no calculus needed in this! Rate = k(3rd)[a][b][c] the units of rate are always mol*s^-1 and the units of [a] are mol so: mol*s^-1 = k(3rd)*mol^3 so that means for the units to be the same on both sides k(3rd) must be in mol^-2*s^-1

What are the units for molecular weight of a protein sequence?
Q. I just sequenced a gene and used an online program to calculate the molecular weight. Does anyone know the units for the number I got?
Asked by JDH - Fri Dec 15 12:49:39 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If a protein's sequence is NOT known, it's mass is usually estimated somewhat crudely, by looking at how far it migrates, for example, in an electric field (called electrophoresis). In this case, the protein's weight is usually expressed as kilo Daltons (or kDa for short), named after British scientist John Dalton (see link below). However, because of modern technology, many proteins' sequences are precisely known. Because many proteins' sequences are known, and because there are now machines (called mass spectrometers) that can measure a peptide's mass very precisely, protein's molecular weights are now usually expressed as Daltons, rather than kDa..

Q. How many formula units of calcium hydroxide are needed to produce 0.0125 moles of aluminum hydroxide? Please show how you did it as well, thank you!
Asked by roste92 - Mon Jan 21 23:12:12 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 3Ca(OH)2 + 2Al --> 2Al(OH)3 + 3Ca According to the balanced reaction given above, the mole ratio between Al(OH)3 and Ca(OH)2 is 2:3 (or if you simplify, 1:1.5(or 3/2) thus, n(Ca(OH)2) = n(Al(OH)3) x 1.5 = 0.0125 mol x 1.5 = 0.01875 mol thus, 0.01875mol (=formula units) of Ca(OH)2 is needed. hope this helps;-)

A. Core usually means general education classes. These could be seminars or math, history, science classes. It depends on your university. Elective classes are ones that are not specifically required, but are chosen by you. These can be film study classes, physical education classes, policy classes, or whatever interests you. It may be related to your major, but may also not be. Electives offer ways to explore other interests of yours, or to supplement interests that you have already explored.
